The pieces I have seen that are transparent seem to have more flips than what I can do on my inkjet printer. Why is that? 

Lenticular images produced using film are the highest quality. Film recorders can image at over 2032 dpi and film is capable of holding this resolution. Inkjet printers, although they claim to have resolutions up to 1440 dpi, in practice, can resolve no more than a fraction of that in Lines Per Inch.
